3 Simple Tips For Thinning Hair, and Hair Loss Prevention

Even if you've been kinder to your hair in 2020, because let’s face it- most of us didn’t have a reason to use hot styling tools as often as we’d like- you may still be dealing with strands that grow too slowly, strands that aren’t growing at all, hair thinning, or even hair loss. There are so many factors that play a role. Let’s talk about it, and don’t worry- I’ve got a few tips that will help you get back your hair!

SO WHAT KEEPS HAIR FROM GROWING?

A healthy hair growth cycle depends on a number of factors, and some are under your control such as a well-balanced diet, stress, haircare products, and medications. Others are less so: age, hormones, scalp health, and various health conditions all have an influence.

Here are my tried and true tips for getting thick, luscious strands in no time!

1.Protect Your Hair From Physical Damage

This doesn't necessarily encourage growth, but it does protect the hair from breakage. Daily wear and tear, harsh brushing, or the shower—leads to hair breakage. Having breakage-prone hair can make achieving your hair length goals... well... close to impossible.

Some examples that can cause this (and I’m guilty of them!): Tight ponies and buns can cause tugging and pulling, so consider using soft hair ties, and letting your hair down when possible... (I know, I know, I NEED my messy bun too). Another option is to switch up your style regularly so you're not putting pressure on the same spot day in day out. Makes sense, right?

Ok, so from research I’ve also learned that

2. Brush & Wash With Caution

HOW you brush hair had an effect on breakage too! Start from the bottom of your hair and then work your way to the top. Find a soft brush bristle made with natural materials because they won’t tear or split your hair. They’re also thought to increase blood flow to the hair follicles, which in turn stimulates growth.

Be mindful of how you are shampooing and conditioning in the shower. Did you know that your hair is most vulnerable when wet? To avoid knots and tangles that are difficult to get out, gently massage in your shampoo & conditioner, and make sure to get your entire scalp, because that’s where the magic happens!

3.It’s All About The Products

Now, the bottom line is, no matter how much you massage your scalp, limit heat styling tools, and discontinue tight hair styles, none of it will work COMPLETELY unless you’re using hair care products with effective ingredients. I use Neutriderm Hair Enhancer Shampoo and Conditioner, and my hair has never looked stronger. I’m 40, and since having two kids, plus doing everything to my hair from extensions, to perms (hello 1993!), my hair was in need of some SERIOUS help.

Let’s start with the Neutriderm Hair Enhancer Shampoo. I use it twice a week and that’s literally all you need, so a bottle will last you a really long time. The ingredient list is chock full of scientifically proven hair growth ingredients. Sabal Extract which is in both the shampoo and conditioner, helps reduce the type of hereditary hair-loss known as androgenic alopecia- which runs in my family on both sides. Another super charged ingredient in the shampoo is Mulberry Root Extract, which not only promotes hair growth, it also prevents breakage. Some beneficial nutrients in Mulberries include calcium, iron, vitamin C, and vitamin B.

I ALWAYS condition my hair, especially because it’s color treated. Neutriderm Hair Enhancer Conditioner leaves my locks super soft and shiny. Avocado Oil is one of my fave ingredients, not only is it a great antioxidant, it also helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp and unclogs blocked follicles- just make sure to use your finger pads to massage it in. Another super-star ingredient in the Neutriderm Hair Enhancer Conditioner is Hydrolized Wheat Protein. It aids in reducing hair’s porosity, while strengthening from within. This protein also helps reduce breakage, eliminates frizz and tangles, plus it makes your hair appear fuller.

I KNOW what it’s like to have thinning hair, and see clumps come out in the shower. It’s not fun, and it can definitely mess with your confidence. I hope these tips helped, let me know if you decide to try them for yourself- I know you’ll love your results if you do!
